About Us

Located at 245 West 52nd Street

The August Wilson Theatre, designed to bring the charm of a Tuscan villa to 52nd Street, first opened in 1925. Built for the Theatre Guild, a New York City-based theatrical society, it distinguished itself from other Broadway venues of the time by offering classrooms, studios, a club, a library, and a bookstore, creating a vibrant cultural hub for artists and theatre-goers.

During the Great Depression, the then-named Guild Theatre remained a beacon of entertainment, hosting iconic stars such as Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart.
